Pulling the Camera Way Back for a Perspective of Hope, Joy, and Unity
No human beings have ever pulled the camera back quite as far as the four Artemis II astronauts who traveled around the dark side of the moon last month. The crew journeyed farther from Earth than anyone before them. That alone is awe-inspiring.
But what truly inspired me is what they brought back with them. They returned with more than images and data. They came back with a renewed perspective of hope, joy, and unity, along with a reminder of who we really are.
No one can convey their powerful message better than they can, so I highly encourage you to watch their conversation with Oprah Winfrey by clicking THIS LINK or the image below. The video is about an hour long and well worth your time. Their stories, insights, and humility made me tear up several times.
As they discuss in the interview, at a time when there is so much fear and division in our country and throughout the world, it was heartening to see so many people drawn to this positive and collaborative story. It was certainly a breath of fresh air for me.
During their 10-day mission, the world came together to watch and pray for their safe return. I was one of more than one million people who watched their spacecraft successfully splash down in the Pacific Ocean on April 10. It was incredible knowing that so many people around the globe were participating in that moment.
We all shared a collective sigh of relief when the parachutes opened, and again when the capsule landed safely in the water. What joy we felt when the Navy team finally opened the hatch and the astronauts emerged from the spacecraft. I’m so grateful I happened to open YouTube that evening while preparing dinner so I could experience those moments simultaneously with more than a million of my fellow Earthlings.
It was a beautiful example of our shared humanity.
No matter where you live or the color of your skin, we are all on this lifeboat floating through the dark abyss of space, as Mission Specialist Christina Koch described it.
And as they, along with many other astronauts, have pointed out, from space there are no visible lines separating countries. I trust hearing them speak about “Tiny Earth” from that vantage point will influence more people to see that we are all one human family inhabiting one beautiful blue planet.
My hope is that one day every nation will fly a flag that includes an image of Planet Earth. Maintaining our cultural heritage and traditions is important, but anything we can do to dissolve the illusory walls of separation can only benefit us all in the end.
You may say that I am a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. Let’s imagine a world where we all work together, where every person is equally valued as a member of our human family, and where peace, love, and joy are recognized as the most powerful forces in the universe—and truly the only things worth seeking.
If I can assist you in experiencing more peace, love, and joy, please reach out and schedule a Spiritual Coaching Session or a private Family Constellations Session.
Until next time, may you look for and find more stories of hope, joy, and unity than stories of despair, suffering, and conflict.
Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world.
