What Would Love Do?
“What would love do?” This is a question I often ask my Spiritual Coaching clients…and myself. I find it incredibly helpful because it cuts through the ego’s chatter and defenses.
It seems clear that Love would not send an angry, hurtful text message. (Even if you received one.) But Love would set a a healthy boundary.
Love might also say no to a request for your time when you feel completely depleted. (Even though someone might be disappointed.)
Love may remain silent instead of making a judgmental comment or offering an opinion that was not asked for. I don’t always succeed, but it does feels better when I follow what Love would do.
This week, I heard about a practice that takes this question even deeper. On the Telepathy Tapes Talk Tracks podcast, host Ky Dickens spoke with author and spiritual teacher Elizabeth Gilbert about the movement she started on Substack called Letters from Love.
In this practice, Liz encourages us to write this simple prompt on a piece of paper:
“Dear Love, what would you have me know today?”
Then, without overthinking it, allow the answer to flow through you and onto the page. It doesn’t have to be pretty or poetic. Whatever comes through is exactly right for you.
Since I felt inspired to write about this practice, I figured I should try it myself before encouraging you to do the same. Here’s what came through:
“Love, what do you want me to know?”
You silly boy. You already know I’m all there is. The only thing that’s real. But you still get fooled that there is something else going on. There’s not.
But it’s okay when you forget. I’m still right here with you. Waiting. Guiding. Supporting. Radiating. It makes me so happy when you remember to come Home.
Keep letting things go. The unnecessary things. The things that weigh you down. The things that make you feel bad. The thoughts that make you feel guilty.
You’ve never done anything to make you unlovable. Nor could you. Just keep loving. Everyone. And yourself. That’s the hard one. But you can do it.
And when you do, life will get so much easier. So much more joyful. Peaceful. When all the extra “stuff” falls away.
Thanks for talking to me tonight. Let’s talk again soon. I love you.
That’s it. That’s what Love wanted me to know that night. And just like Liz and Ky shared in the podcast, I felt extremely calm and peaceful after that download.
I’ll admit, it feels very vulnerable to share something like this publicly. But if anyone reading this finds it helpful, or better yet, feels inspired to try this practice themselves, it will be worth it.
I truly hope you give it a try, especially if you’ve been feeling sad, lost, or fearful lately. (And who among us hasn’t at some point in the last few years?) It may seem like a simple exercise that couldn’t possibly have any benefits in the “real world,” but I have seen time and again how opening more deeply to the presence of Love positively impacts every aspect of my life.
You may notice a great deal of unconscious resistance to doing it. Liz talks about this in the podcast and offers some helpful tips for getting started. If you’re interested in hearing her speak more about the process and how it has helped her over the past 20 years, check out Season 2, Episode 21 of The Telepathy Tapes Talk Tracks. You can listen on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.
In this 45-minute conversation, Liz also shares many of the Letters from Love she has received over the last two years. The messages are incredibly moving and remarkably similar. It’s definitely worth a listen.
If you would like a safe space where you can feel supported and truly seen, please reach out and schedule a Spiritual Coaching session or series of sessions. It would be my great honor to walk with you for a while and help you return to peace.
Until next time, may you feel the presence of Love embracing you in every moment.
Peace is already recognized at last, and you can feel its soft embrace surround your heart and mind with comfort and with love.
A Course in Miracles ~ W-200.10:6

Thank you for creating this page. For me, as someone from a different continent, it is a great opportunity to connect with an unfamiliar culture and, at the same time, share my own. In my world, we call everyday miracles 'Karamat', and it is interesting to see how these universal values look from your perspective. I look forward to our cultural exchange.
